Aleph draws on multiple points of view to make a whole. It explores the lives of 10 people in 10 countries each deepening our understanding of ourselves and the universe. In each location the filmmaker has a month to find a protagonist, a story. She gathers stories in documentary fashion, involves the protagonists in writing/performing scenes, then films in a controlled stylized way. Through a memory or a dream each character reveals the next location and protagonist. The film uses dream logic where fiction and reality blur. The stories illuminate our universal consciousness. By playing with uncertainty/serendipity the film constructs its own narrative, unveiling the unimaginable universe.
Iva Radivojevic is a Brooklyn based filmmaker who spent her early years in Yugoslavia and Cyprus. Her films have screened at NYFF, SXSW, Rotterdam IFF, HotDocs, Museum of Modern Art (NYC) were broadcast on PBS, New York Times Op-Docs. She is the recipient of the 2015 Guggenheim Fellowship, 2011 and 2012 Princess Grace Special Project Award and Film Fellowship and was named one of 25 New Faces of Independent Film by Filmmaker Magazine. She’s currently working on her new film Aleph, follow what she’s up to at www.ivaasks.com.
Splitting her time between Montreal and Istanbul, Selin Murat has been producing author-driven documentary cinema almost 10 years, including The Devil’s Trap (CPH:Dox 2017), Nuestro Monte Luna (Hot Docs 2016), A City Is an Island (CPH:Dox 2015), Ariel (IDFA 2013) among others. Vilka Alfier works with Fade In, an award winning Croatian documentary production company, as an executive and associate producer among different roles. Internationally, Fade In is most known for Sick (Warsaw FF, One World FF, Sao Paolo FF) and the co-produced Gangster of Love (HotDocs, DOK Leipzig).
With the momentum of her short web series and her debut film, since the very beginning we have been enticed by Iva's adventurous vision and inventive style. She’s been editing some of the most creative independent films and is associated with surprising and daring cinema. We strongly believe in this film and its attaining a new cinematic language. We anticipate the universality and its worldwide exploration of human experience will set it apart from documentary trends and place it in a special place straddling magical realism, documentary and fiction. The unique and innovative nature of the production style leaves the team in the hands of a few daring funders, and we are here to meet them.

Tic-Tac. Toni had blind faith in the power of images to capture the closest intimacy. 1989. The birth of his eldest daughter fathered images of joy through a videotaped journal. After his wife died 300 hours of videotapes were parked-aside; 1996.
Tic-Tac. Today Toni takes the steering wheel driving through a distance surpassing space.
To whom do these memories belong? Whose gazes are behind the lenses? The most elemental power, the most precarious gesture laying over the possibility of inheritance.
Tic-. What remains out of the mourning? Tac-. The Joy Tapes.
Pablo Martínez Samper (Spain, 1978) graduated in Philosophy by the Autonomous University of Madrid, holds two master degrees on Contemporary Film and Creative Documentary at the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona. Since 2003 he combines theoretical research on Esthetics (prologuing the Spanish edition of texts by Dziga Vertov and the Spanish catalogue Tarkovski photographic exhibition’s, among others) with audiovisual creation (Spanish pavilion at the International Art Exhibition in Venice at 2007; Pere Portabella´s Informe General II. El nuevo rapto de Europa and the collective direction on Demonstration by Victor Kossakovsky). The Joy Tapes is his first film as a director.
Federico Delpero Bejar (Argentina, 1982). Attorney by the National University of Tucumán, holds a master degree on Creative Documentary by Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona. As a postproduction wizard he graded for Victor Kossakovsky (Demonstration WP: IDFA ’13), José Luis Guerin (L’Accademia de les Muses WP: Locarno’15), Andrés Duque (Oleg WP: IFF Rotterdam ’16), Pilar Monsell (Africa815 WP: Cinéma du Réel ‘15), among others. As an editor he shared Salóme (Yrsa Roca Fannberg WP:Nordisk Panorama ‘14), Revolução Industrial (T. Hespanha/F. Lobo WR: Visions Du Réel '14). Since 2011 he’s been actively evolved on financial design as delegate producer for diverse companies.
The Joy Tapes compose the legacy of images that, one way or the other, we’ve all inherited. Time passes, death irrupts and memories drive into lost paradises where the gesture of videotaping becomes something different. On this path of transformation Pablo Martínez Samper’s gaze built a film of extreme beauty and eternal Joy.
We’re close to get the final cut. The material complexity on the archive footage’s treatment and the need to deeply integrate sound design requires exhaustive creative and technical Lab-work foresight theatrical screening. There’s an 11-week postproduction schedule ready to be executed as soon as resources are in place. We have a blind faith that next stage will get the powerful fragility existing in The Joy Tapes into the strength of wonder only cinema has.

“What is it like to be an occupier? I come from Ukraine and so did my granduncle. He was a young guy when he was forced to invade Czechoslovakia in 1968 as a Soviet soldier. Then he returned back home, but he couldn‘t cope with what he saw and also caused, even as an executor of someone’s orders. He committed suicide. His story could belong to any soldier, who happened to stand on a tank in August 1968 in Czechoslovakia. Using extensive archival footage, a complex examination of themes emerges, tied to the one soldier in the grand machinery of politics and history. This film isn‘t about general justice or truth. It is about how one becomes an occupier without his or her own intention.”
Anna Kryvenko is a video and fine art photography artist. She is a student of the last year of the Centre for Audio-Visual Studies at FAMU, Prague (CZ). Before she studied theatre directing at KNUTKT (UA) and alternative theatre directing at DAMU (CZ). Her films and performances were screened at Fluidum Festival, Jihlava IDFF (CZ), Intermedia BB (SK), Visions du Reél (SUI), etc. She participated in several group exhibitions. With her found-footage film Silently Like a Comet she won the Best Experimental Act award at Famufest (CZ). Her last film Listen to the Horizon won the Best Czech Experimental Documentary award at Jihlava IDFF (CZ).
A graduate of Economic theories at the Charles University (CZ), currently finishing Film and TV production studies at FAMU (CZ). He lead development of the debut movie Kids from the East of awards-winning director Aramisova, with which they won 3 main awards at Agora Crossroads at Thessaloniki IFF (GR). He was awarded as a Promising Producer at Baltic Event by Black Nights Tallinn IFF (2014, EST) and Promotion Prize of the GWFF for talented producer at Cottbus IFF (2015, DE). As a producer, he attended various workshops or events like MIDPOINT, MAIA, SOFA, ARCHIDOC, dok.incubator, Trans Atlantic Partners, Producers Network at Cannes IFF and Berlinale Talents.
The director Anna has lived for more than 8 years in Prague and this experience, naturally, brought a lot of questions about her granduncle. Also it opened the subject of inherited guilt. The upcoming 50th anniversary of the invasion gave us the opportunity to show that it is not clear who is the bad or good guy. The movie is being edited and will be finished by the end of 2017. The budget is EUR 275,000; 60% is secured and 20% is pending. We are looking for funds to cover the gap, world sales agent and world premiere. The release will start in August 2018 with series of site-specific screenings at the places which are directly linked to the 1968 events and later with TV and VOD distribution.

Filmmaker Jo Sol is evicted from the house where he was born and in which he stored an unpublished audiovisual archive, shot by himself around the world for nearly 50 years.
What to do with those images, linked to memories of a life that no longer exists?
This uprooting process forces him to contemplate the status of the images, audiovisual language, the fragility of memory and the relentless persistence of visual memories.
The constant reference to masters, such as Chris Marker and Guy Debord, inspires a voice-over loaded with a deep political and existential outlook.
Jo Sol filmography combine experimental practices with feature-length documentaries with a strong sociopolitical agenda. Living and Other Fictions, 2016, Director and Screenplay
Luis Miñarro is one of best-know arthouse film producers in Europe. During his long career, has produced directors as relevant as Manoel de Oliveira, Naomi Kawase, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Lisandro Alonso or Albert Serra, that boast illustrious international recognition, such as the Palme d'Or at Cannes, the golden Globe in Karlovy Vary, or Rotterdam Festival Tiger, among many others.
This project is built on the director's unique archive. Our main goal during the first 10 months of production has been to scan all available material, and to contribute the resources to edit a rough cut.
The results encourage us to believe that, in fact, the unique nature of this film as well as its artistic and conceptual value, will allow us to draw the alliances and pre-sales to complete the remaining budget. We are working to give the film the best options available on the international market.
The trajectory of director and producer, augurs a remarkable touring in festivals and a realistic promotion for world sales.

The Sound is Innocent is a playful and poetic guidebook of the evolution and the history of electronic music in Europe. Our guide in this sonic world is Johana. For her, electronic music means a wide range for free artistic expression. Born in Czechoslovakia, she runs into a problem with her music production that leaves her paralyzed. How to find a direction in this free, seemingly endless space of expression? Which instrument should she choose? Johana fails to find satisfying answers in her environment and so she enters a dreamlike space beyond time, a recording studio, to talk to her guides about the keystones of creation and the important relation between the human and the machine…
Graduated from FAMU in Prague. Regularly collaborates with Czech Radio as a writer and a director of radio plays and audio-musical compositions. In 2009 she was awarded with “Prix Bohemia Radio”. In 2013 she created for online platform Artyčok.TV documentary series Interviews about Sound. She directed several docu-fiction short films: Hi, I'm doing fine (“Best documentary” – Fresh Film Fest 2014, “Mise en scene” – IFF Poitiers, “Best documentary” - IFF FIDÉ 2014 in Paris) or Process (Special Jury Award – IFF Febiofest SK 2016). In 2014 she elaborated a research on “Film Music of Zdeněk Liška” which led to the online publication. In 2015 she studied at Institute of Sonology in The Hague.
Graduated from FAMU in Prague. In 2015 she produced her first feature Road-Movie by Martin Jelínek, which premiered in debut competition at Black Nights Film Festival 2015 (then IFF Cottbus and IFF Febiofest). With her projects, she has attended Short Film Corner at Cannes, East West Talent Lab, MFI and Midpoint Script Development workshops, Ex Oriente 2016 and Eurodoc 2017. In 2015, she founded her own production company Cinémotif Films. She has now several documentaries and feature films in development, e.g. first feature Lost in Paradise by Swiss director Fiona Ziegler (selected for Crossroads Co-Production Forum at TIFF) or her documentary Burned presented at DOK.Forum Munchen 2016.
What I find most remarkable about this project is the natural conflict inside the creation of electronic music on which the director focuses a lot: the relation between the human and the machine. This topic has many parallels towards the non-artistic globalized virtual world obsessed with technologies – as we will discover during the film. Another quality is a very sensitive and inovative director’s approach to the search for a balance between the historical facts (and the work with archives) and more abstract and free interpretation of the evolution of this music. The project is in pre-production: we plan to shoot from the late summer 2017 until the spring 2018. The budget is 260,000 EUR – 25% are confirmed and 35% are pending. The project was already part of Ex Oriente and Eurodoc, and it was presented at East Doc Platform.

A small crew is going around Marrakech and its surroundings looking for swimming pools to find locations for the remake of an American movie in which a man crosses a county, pool by pool, to reach his home. The Controfigura (The Stand-In) rehearses the shots to find the path through the city and the pools that the main actor will run and swim through. While we watch his struggles to become more than just a stand-in figure, the real actors and shooting crew burst into the scene on a set where nobody seems to be in the right place. A film in search of itself, looking for where the real film is.
Rä di Martino (Rome 1975) studied at the Chelsea College of Arts and the Slade School of Fine Art in London before moving to live in New York between 2005 and 2010. She has exhibited nationally and internationally in institutions such as the Tate Modern, London; MoMA PS1, New York; Palazzo Grassi, Venice; GAM and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin; MACRO and MAXXI in Rome; Museion, Bolzano; MCA, Chicago; HangarBicocca and PAC in Milan. With her works she has participated in many international film festivals including Locarno Film Festival, Kunst FilmBiennale, VIPeR Basel, Transmediale.04, New York Underground Film Festival, Kasseler Dokfest, Turin Film Festival, and took part in the Venice International Film Festival, winning the SIAE Award in 2014, and the Gillo Pontecorvo award with her short The Show MAS Go On.
Marco Alessi started his career as a screenwriter for both cinema and TV. In 2010 he set up Dugong, a Rome based production company committed of the cinema beyong genres and boundaries. Among his credits as a producer are Stefano Savona, Tahrir, Liberation Square (premiered at Locarno, winner of Davide di Donatello and Nastro Argento, sold to more than 20 countries); In Attesa dell'Avvento (winner of Orizzonti Award in Venice), Rä di Martino Ancient Copies of Recent Landscape (Rotterdam FF, Tate Modern London), The Challenge by Yuri Ancarani (winner Special Jury Prize at Locarno 2016). In production among others is Samouni Road, with the support of Eurimages.
We have known Rä during the production of her short Petite Histoire des Plataux Abandonnés, a journey through abandoned cinema sets across the Maghreb desert. In Controfigura her fascination for cinema history continues making a further step, that of deconstructing the cinematic boundaries between stand-ins and actors. Most of Rä short works have been shown both in festivals and museums and funded by private donors. Also Controfigura, her first feature, has been supported by this system, connecting at the same time film producers from four countries and a cast of Italian and moroccan stars who fully embraced the project. The film is in post-production, but we still need additional funding. To be a part of the Eurimages Lab Project opens up to the opportunity to finish our playful experiment in the best possible way and to position it at the cross-road between art and cinema.

Stasis is based on a three-year ethnographic research Mantas Kvedaravicius did in Athens, Odessa and Istanbul. The Kurdish, Sudanese, Ukrainian, Greek people from these locations – squats, secret cafes, underground mosques, brothels, abandoned factories – and their stories were turned into the narrative of this film. The main characters – Garip, Sofia, Ibrahim and Anna – as well as an overarching criminal and love story guide us through otherwise complex contemporary life in each city. Documentary situations are composed as to bring us away from the sense of real (and right back to dramatic), inviting us to take a step aside.
Mantas Kvedaravicius (Lithuania) is a filmmaker and an academic who holds the long-standing interests in absence, materiality and body in their performative and political manifestations. He holds a PhD in social anthropology from the University of Cambridge, and currently is an Associate Professor at Vilnius University. His documentaries – Barzakh (2011) and Mariupolis (2016) have premiered and been awarded in Berlinale, Busan, Hong-Kong, Nyon Visions du Réel film festivals.
ROUGE INTERNATIONAL is a production company established in July 2007 by Julie Gayet and Nadia Turincev, producing full length feature and documentary films from all over the world, ranging from first time directors as Ganesh Yourself by Emmanuel Grimaud to reknown auteurs like The Treasure by Corneliu Porumboiu, from Bonsai by Cristian Jimenez to A Spell to Ward Off The Darkness by Ben Rivers & Ben Russell, always trying to keep the amazement alive, working hard, very hard, having fun too, and following their motto «Universality is when you push out the walls of your kitchen.»
Recent awards: Mimosas by Olivier Laxe – Cannes Critics Week 2016 Nespresso Grand Prize. RAW by Julia Ducournau – Cannes Critics Week 2016 Fipresci Prize and BFI First Feature Competition Winner Sutherland Award. Faces Places by Agnès Varda & JR – Cannes Official Selection 2017, l’Oeil d’Or Best Documentary Award
Mantas Kvedaravicius is the director of 2 feature-length documentary films, Barzakh and Mariupolis (Berlinale Panorama 2011 & 2016). Stasis extends his documentary work and immerses in fiction. Interweaven. The very first images we are presenting here were edited by Petro Tsymbal. Dounia Sichov (editor of Mariupolis) will join us in September. No sound work yet but it will be supervised by Nicolas Becker. Budget is EUR 1,140,000. 20% still uncovered. Stasis delves into the margins of the West, the boundaries of our bodies, our hearts, our minds, to reveal our geographical and historical ties, our physical and emotional ties, to search our memories, our fears, and perhaps our hopes. We say “our” because through the film, these people, these characters, a priori so remote from us, will become deeply familiar.

Made exclusively out of found footage, the film juxtaposes four wars which were all started based on a lie: Suez Crises in 1956, Vietnam in 1964, Iraq in 2003 and Libya in 2011.
Without narration, specially shot interviews or captions, the film uses only archive footage, news reports, personal videos and the power of editing to take the audience on a gut-wrenching journey as it follows soldiers who go to war full of youthful idealism and come back broken by their government's mendacity and cynicism.
The film allows the audience the space to reflect on their own role in the story, but the similarities that emerge between the wars are as chilling as they are eye-opening.

We are still in early production and are in the process of selecting materials and assembling them into scenes. The extensive use of archive means that the budget of the film is 460,000 euros. We are looking for financiers and co-producers to cover these costs with either direct funding or by ceding archive rights. We feel that the film’s urgent political message, it's resonance with the current world affairs and its courageous storytelling technique mean that it has every chance of making a big impact at the very top of the festival circuit and that this would later facilitate cinema, TV and VOD distributions. It is a film that is important, innovative, relevant and dramatic all at once.
