Film synopsis:
Soviet Russia, 1921. The young poet Anna Barkova is to embark on a starry carrier, her first collection has just been published and she is believed to become the greatest Russian poet, overshadowing event the great Pushkin. A few years later, however, Anna sits in a crowded cattle truck heading for the barren steppes of Kazakhstan. This will not be her only journey and only camp. The poet Anna Barkova (1906-1976) spent 22 years of her life in Gulags. Besides the strong story of one life the film brings breathtaking vistas of snowy plains behind the polar circle, playful animated inserts, pseudo-documentary footage and, thank to the original storytelling, a number of surprises.
Marta Nováková - Filmography:
Graduated from Film School Zlín in 1996 with the short film "Spát a spát” ("I Want to Sleep”) awarded at many festivals. 1997-2005 studied directing at FAMU. In 2003 spent half a year as an intern at VGIK in Moscow. 1999-2008 read Russian studies at the Charles University, graduating with a major. In 2006 finished her first feature, Marta, which was also her graduation film at FAMU. The film was very successful internationally and was presented at numerous festivals around the world, including Busan IFF (Critics’ Choice), Cottbus (The Best Debut Film Award), Cairo IFF (Main Competition), Göteborg IFF (Ingmar Bergman Award nomination), Cyprus IFF (Int. Competition: The Best Screenplay Award).
Producer´s Filmography:
Julietta Sichel, producer, film theorist, film historian, and former program director of KVIFF, founded 8Heads Productions in 2010 with the aim to produce author-based projects, involving close cooperation of the screenwriter, director and producer. The company focuses on films with international potential and with chances of success at leading world film festivals.
Filmography:
• 2013 – "Occupation, the 27th Picture”, dir. Pavo Marinković; selection of festival presentations: Karlovy Vary IFF, Sarajevo IFF, Kiev Molodist IFF, Jihlava IDFF, ZagrebDox, Cinema Politica Bucharest, WorldFest-Houston IFF and others.
• exp. rel. 2015 – "8 Heads of Madness”, dir. Marta Nováková (postproduction).
Producer´s Statement:
Status: beginning of very demanding postproduction, which includes animations. Insufficient funding the film is being made with, was offset by the creativity of the entire crew. We never really wanted to shoot a big budget film but rather a chamber piece, sometimes playful, where big epic scenes can be done creatively, not just by expensive shots. We are planning to have a premiere in spring/summer 2015. Our goal is to start the film’s career at one of the international film festivals. The film depicts eternal struggle of the artist against the outside world and is dedicated to all those fighting for any kind of freedom – may it be artistic or economical or just freedom of mind.

Producer´s Statement:
We have almost completed the production phase and we are looking for postproduction financing and support. Being mostly an independent film, the budget was minimal. The whole cast and most of the crew were in kind participation to the film or supported by Mandragora. Also we benefited for very good professionals as Silviu Stavila ( DOP for film directors such as Cristi Puiu and Lucian Pintilie) and editor Dana Bunescu ("The Death of Mr. Lazarescu", "Child’s Pose") which also deferred theirs cost. We already have a first cut, but we need postproduction support. The local National TV has already shown interest in our film and we are looking for a World Sales and potential distributors.

While Goat wants a child of his own, she strictly refuses to have a child because they are heavily in debt with no relief in sight. Ivan Ostrochovský - Filmography:
The writer and director Ivan Ostrochovsky is a filmmaker of a distinctive style, often blending documentary and fiction approach. He co-directed the film "Velvet Terrorists” that was awarded at Karlovy Vary IFF 2013 and at Berlinale Forum 2014. His documentary "Ilja” was nominated for Slovak Film Award for Best Documentary. "Goat” is his full-length fiction film debut.
Producer´s Filmography:
Slovak company Sentimentalfilm, producers Marek Urban and Ivan Ostrochovsky – producers of "Ilja” (Nominaton for Slovak Film Award for Best Documentary), "Matchmaking Mayor” by Erika Hnikova in 2011 (Berlinale 2011 Best Forum Film) and many other documentary and fiction films.
Czech company Endorfim, producer Jiri Konecny – his productions were presented at numerous international festivals including two times Berlinale: "A Night Too Young” by Olmo Omerzu in 2012 and "Matchmaking Mayor” by Erika Hnikova in 2011 (Best Forum Film). Two times they were the national candidates for Oscar – last year it was "Made in Ash” by Iveta Grofova.
Producer´s Statement:
The protagonist of the film Peter Baláž is the real boxer (he was at Olympics in Atlanta) and the story is inspired by his life. The concept of the film uses him to help us both preserve the illusion of authenticity thanks to the realistic aspect of the fights and Koza’s boxing habits and keep Koza in his natural environment. We placed emphasis on searching for authentic premises and characters that operate on the fringes of professional boxing. The final format of the film should provide a feeling of social helplessness and fatalism. The rawness of the spaces in which the characters operate will form this illusion in the audience. The raw environment will also mean raw characters.

They get closer and help each other to overcome the internal as well as external obstacles of their lives. Their liberating friendship almost becomes a love affair, despite the fact it cannot be fulfilled. This liberation creates an intense bond between them: a new escape, a new quest. This is a story of a lost girl, a gay hairdresser and their attempts to escape the constraints of their own desires. This is a love story for the 21st century.

Film synopsis:
A winter, in an isolated island, a strange creature appears. Whoever comes in contact with him loses his mind. The people are becoming more and more absurd. They ask for help from a strange girl who seems to be the only one to have the power to confront the creature and so she starts a crusade without mercy against him. But as the war rages on and the battle between good and evil seems to be clear, we discover that beneath the surface lie many hidden secrets. The creature behaves more and more like human, while the girl, in order to strengthen her faith, ends up acting more and more outrageously and absurdly.
Angelos Frantzis - Filmography:
Angelos Frantzis was born in Athens in 1970. He studied film direction at INSAS in Brussels. He has made 5 short and 3 feature films ("Polaroid”, "A Dog’s Dream”, "In the Woods”). Producer´s Filmography:
The Gardens is a new independent production company established by Angelos Frantzis and Katia Goulioni. It has produced a theatrical play and this is the first feature film.
Producer´s Statement:
The film is a legend about the dark nature. Having to face the enigma of existence, the film’s heroes fight alone against all. But the most severe battle is the one against themselves. Against that group of inarticulate and inconsistent features that compose less and less a human being and gradually make them face their inner chaos. The film is currently in an initial stage of editing and at KVIFF we are looking for festival programmers, sales agent, distributors and TV sales.

Producer´s Statement:
The General by Bakur Bakuradze is, in fact, the last piece of a trilogy about a strong man in a tough situation. Bakur Bakuradze’s characters are all outsiders. Either due to a disease (Shultes), social environment (the Hunter) or historical circumstances (General), they are loners, forced to confront not only the society, but themselves as well. In the both previous films the actions of the heroes have no national or ideological features. The General’s story is universal too. It could have happened in any country that has experienced a civil war. On the other hand, this is a story about Serbia, the country that is still getting through psychological consequences of the civil war.

Film synopsis:
Pavel Zuev has to start his life over from darkness after he loses his sight in an accident. The young man has to learn again how to eat, walk, wash himself, and do simple housework, and even how to look out of the window without seeing anything. All connections to his previous life are broken. In this new life, blind Zuev encounters an exceptional woman capable of seeing more than other people do. Her name sounds symbolic – Nadezhda (translates as ’hope’ into English) and she works at the hospital. Nadezhda will help Zuev find his strength and a new sense of existing.
Aleksander Kott - Filmography:

Won Cracow Film Festival Prof. Bronislaw Chromy Award (1998), and many others.
Producer´s Filmography:
Katia Filippova began her cinematographic career working with Nikita Mikhalkov and in the Union of Cinematographers of Russia. Her first producer’s experience was a short feature film "Just the Two of Us” directed by Alexander Veledinsky which was later selected for Un Certain Regard, the official selection program of the Cannes Film Festival. In 2001, Katia founded the film company SLON that among others produced TV and feature films such as "Nobody Knows about Sex” by A. Gordeeva, "Mars” by A. Melikyan, "Greek Holiday” by V. Storojeva. Since 2005, Katia has been the head of the Atlantic Film Company.
Producer´s Statement:
The film has many meanings and raises questions about very different aspects of life. Life is a unique gift. The main humanistic aspect of our film is definitely the attraction of public attention to people with disabilities and the issues they encounter every day. This is the first movie on this topic in our country in many years, probably the first one in the history of the "new” Russian cinema. In terms of genre "Blind Love” incorporates the elements of drama, romance and tragicomedy. This movie is a striking example of auteur cinema aimed at wide audiences including blind people.
The main promotion strategy is to work with festivals.

Film synopsis:
This is a story about a fisherman’s wife, about loneliness and love.
"Wind, Sand, Gulls and Desire to live not worse than others..." – these words were the basis for the atmosphere of the story because they are extremely accurate in determining the real world of these places today.
"The Gulls” is a parable of a modern Kalmykia. It’s all about love, and characters there intuitively perform the forgotten traditions. They silently love, they mourn without crying ... The Gulls are souls of the dead fishermen, the broken boats, and finally, they are the hope.

Producer´s Statement:
Our main heroine is from Kalmykia, a small region of Russia on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Russia’s rich diversity of ethnic groups has unfortunately, rarely been used as the subject of cinema. "The Gulls”, whose characters have not forgotten their native Kalmyk language, will stimulate interest in the region, and will provide an opportunity to show the world the beauty of the boundless Kalmyk steppe and its people.
Our film has a great potential for success at international film festivals, and for being distributed in many countries around the world.
