After Jude Law used it to decorate his luxury car or when burglars almost stole it from Mel Gibson, the Crystal Globe statuette shows up again in this year's festival trailer. It was filmed just a few weeks before the start of the festival by Ivan Zachariáš and stars Zdeněk Svěrák in the main role.
Ivan Zachariáš, internationally renowned director of advertising videos, created his tenth trailer for the festival this year. According to Zachariáš, working with Zdeněk Svěrák, recipient of the 2014 KVIFF President's Award, made it one of the easiest to do. It took them two hours to come up with. "I met up with Mr Svěrák and his son Honza at his place and we wrote it together," the director recalls.
The trailer itself also revolves around the vain search for inspiration and a "notepad for ideas", accompanied by the atmosphere of the summer heat. The sophisticated piece, clocking in at just under two minutes, will bring a similar smile to the lips as other typical Svěrákesque antics "from the teacher's drawer", drawing primarily on wordplay and not situational comedy. "It's a pleasure to be with Mr Svěrák even when he's not speaking. It was a joy to see him when shooting with Daniela Kolářová, chatting and laughing…" gushes Zachariáš on working with the "Cimrmanologist".
It was Ivan Zachariáš who came up with the current concept of festival clips eight years ago, and this year he is also presenting the first two of his eight hour-long episodes of the ambitious HBO Europe series Pustina (Wasteland).
