Four highly regarded films will be presented for the first time to the European audience in Karlovy Vary IFF’s Official Selection – Out of Competition section. Awarded for the Best Cinematography at New York’s Tribeca, Estonian coproduction November (dir. Rainer Sernet) leads us to the mysterious world of pagan countryside, where werewolves roam, villagers have to cope with plague and the main characters are hardly finding their love. The Special Jury Prize at Sundance was taken by black comedy from Hong Kong Free and Easy (dir. Jun Geng) in which seemingly innocent arrival of a door-to-door soap seller to the barren village in northern China starts a series of funny situations. Another title brings the atmosphere of rough Irish nature to the festival cinemas. The visually stunning black and white Song of Granite (dir. Pat Collins) is dedicated to the life of Joe Heaney; the well recognized Irish musician. The film had its World Premiere at SXSW festival. At the Hong Kong International Film Festival started the festival career of Indian co-production film Juze (dir. Miransha Naik), which follows an endeavour of adolescent Santhosh, who is struggling to escape from slum and starts a new life in better world.
