A selfie and a discussion with Jeremy Renner

July 07, 2017, 21:28

The Czech premiere of the suggestive drama from snow-covered Wyoming, Wind River, which won the prize for best director in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes, was accompanied by the actor that plays the main role, Jeremy Renner. First he said he hoped the audience in the Grand Hall would like the film, then jokingly added: "If you don't, I'll find you and do something inappropriate to you." After the screening of the directorial debut of screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, he came to the theatre for a discussion, even allowing one bold female fan to take a selfie with him on the stage.

The discussion, during which the actor learned the words plavky and hajzlík from interpreter Helena Koutná, primarily concerned the film Wind River, which is about the investigation of the tragic death of a young girl on a Native reservation. "The characters are fictional, but similar atrocities do take place frequently in such places. The crime against Natives is twofold, however. The state drove these people into the darkest corners of the country. But this community should be celebrated, not overlooked," said Renner. He did not want to talk specifically about politics and Donald Trump however: "I prefer to make films such as Wind River and express myself by how I act."

One question brought the actor back to his stay in Prague while shooting the fourth instalment of Mission: Impossible. "I spent three months there. I had quite a bit of free time, so I enjoyed some fun things as well, but I won't tell you which ones," Renner said, taunting the audience that applauded him about thirty times during his KVIFF Talk.
