Director Martin Krejčí, who has co-operated with the KV Festival for a long time and helped to create several Festival trailers, this year brought his feature debut The True Adventures of Wolfboy, a story about a boy suffering from the condition known as congenital hypertrichosis, or abnormal hair growth. The director presented his film together with the actor Jaeden Martell, who plays the main character, at the Grand Hall.
“All started twenty years ago, during my first visit to the Festival, back then as a backpacker sleeping at the tent village. I witnessed an introduction of a film at the Grand Hall, where the director was moved by the atmosphere, recalling that twenty years before, he had promised to come back with his own film. At that time, it sounded somewhat theatrical to me, but things have changed,” the director explained the background of his first feature film.
Krejčí’s debut, which deals with the search for one’s own identity against the odds, skilfully combines a solid grounding in contemporary reality with the otherness of a world reminiscent of myth and legend. “The idea of the film is that despite such differences as hair growth, religion or political opinions, we should always strive to find something that connects us, a link between each other,” concluded Krejčí. Apart from making commercials, he is also the author of several short films, including the comedy Fricasse, screened at the Cannes festival.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
