Ode to Nothing from film director Dwein Baltazar enters the festival's Official Selection with a screening today at 17:00. It is a carefully constructed, very tender film about the longing for companionship. After a successful première at the Sundance festival, American drama To the Stars has arrived at Karlovy Vary. It is set in Oklahoma in the 1960s. Director Martha Stephens and others will be presenting it in the Grand Hall at 20:00.
Today, the KVIFF Talk debate with viewers welcomes young actors Kara Hayward and Jaeden Martell, whose careers were launched with a number of children's roles. During the debate at 11:00 in the Hotel Thermal Vodafone Lounge, these two actors will be talking about all manner of specifics of children's acting and about their experiences working with experienced big names in film directing.
Juraj Jakubisko's 1992 black comedy, It's Better to Be Wealthy and Healthy Than Poor and Ill, will be screened at 13:00 in the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre. The End of Berhof from film director Jiří Svoboda will be shown on that same screen at 16:00. This film is set in the Czech-Polish-German border region just after World War II. The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is presenting this film in honour of cameraman Vladimír Smutný, this year's KVIFF President’s Award recipient. The Czech films programme at the Municipal Theatre continues at 18.30 with a documentary about the creative and personal life of a key figure on the Czech cultural scene: Jiří Suchý - Tackling Life with Ease by director Olga Sommerová.

At 11:00 in the Czech Television House there will be a debate by the CEO of Czech Television, Petr Dvořák; the legendary Czech theatre enthusiast, musician and filmmaker Jiří Suchý; and actress Jitka Molavcová. Jiří Mádl's small-scale piece about the co-existence of a senior and a young Vietnamese boy, On the Roof, will be screened to the public free of charge at 20:00 at the Mill Colonnade.
