Vary at Your Cinema invites viewers to pre-premieres of carefully chosen, long-anticipated films. The new season opens on 2 October with director Todd Phillips’s Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the Oscar-winning Joker. Joaquin Phoenix reprises the title role, with singer and actress Lady Gaga playing his kindred spirit Harley Quinn.
At least 67 Czech cinemas will be participating in this year’s season, making Vary at Your Cinema accessible to an even greater audience so you have the option to get a guaranteed seat at your favorite cinema. What is more, at the cinema you’ll enjoy a festival atmosphere with all that comes with it: a special pre-film introduction, the occasional post-film discussion, and of course a red carpet in front of the cinema for you to walk down! Subscriptions are on sale now on tadyvary.cz.
“The opening film will have its world premiere at the Venice film festival, after which it heads out into the world. We are excited to start the second season of Vary at Your Cinema with the most highly anticipated film of the fall,” says Karel Och, artistic director of the Karlovy Vary film festival, about Joker: Folie à Deux. “Five years ago, its predecessor, Joker, captivated cinemagoers and earned eleven Oscar nominations, with one of its two awards going deservedly to Joaquin Phoenix. World-famous singer and actress Lady Gaga is now appearing alongside him in its sequel, and all indications are that for many viewers it will be another unforgettable cinematic experience.”
Besides this opening film, you can look forward to nine more titles from October 2024 to June 2025 (autumn and winter dates are 2 October, 23 October, 20 November, 18 December, 8 January + 5 more dates in the spring season). Detailed information about the program will be published in early September.
The original idea of a cinema season with subscription tickets and a festival atmosphere has already made a name for itself among cinema operators and has garnered an enthusiastic response among subscribers. The first year of Vary at Your Cinema took place at 56 cinemas throughout the Czech Republic, and its ten exclusive pre-premieres were seen by nearly 25,000 people. The project’s success attracted other cinemas, and so this year’s films can also be seen in, among other places, Olomouc, Kladno, Opava, and Český Brod, plus at the renovated Imperial Baths in Karlovy Vary.
“Vary at Your Cinema is a benefit for audiences and cinema operators alike. On the one hand, it helps bring a diverse range of quality movies to cinemas even in the most remote parts of the Czech Republic; on the other, the project gives cinema operators guaranteed regular visitors,” says Kryštof Mucha, executive director of the Karlovy Vary film festival, adding: “Vary at Your Cinema also helps others. With the help of the ČEZ Foundation’s Help Through Movement program, during the Karlovy Vary festival we collected funding to help repair the cinema in Pernink.”
