The autumn season of the Vary at Your Cinema subscription program for film lovers from all corners of the Czech Republic is in full swing, and audiences have already enjoyed two pre-premieres at more than 70 cinemas throughout the country. On 2 October, our program kicked off with the autumn film event from Venice, director Todd Phillips’s Joker: Folie à Deux, followed on 23 October by Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning comic love story Anora. November brings Emilia Pérez, Jacques Audiard’s phenomenal award-winning genre mix, and for our pre-Christmas film we have (like last year’s revival screening of Love Actually) chosen another modern classic, Alexander Payne’s Sideways. This legendary bitter comedy, which won two Golden Globes and an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and remains popular among Czech audiences. Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church play two friends who take a week-long pre-wedding tour of Southern California’s wine country that is sure to get you in the mood for the upcoming Christmas holidays.
In January, audiences can look forward to Oscar-winning Paolo Sorrentino’s latest outing and tribute to his native Naples – Parthenope.
The films are screened on the following dates (always a Wednesday):
20 November 2024 Emilia Peréz, dir. Jacques Audiard, USA/Mexico/France, 2024
18 December 2024 Sideways, dir. Alexander Payne, USA, 2004
8 January 2025 Parthenope, dir. Paolo Sorrentino, Italy/France, 2024
Vary at Your Cinema has also announced the Wednesday dates for the spring half of its program: 12 February 2025, 12 March 2025, 16 April 2025, 14 May 2025, and 11 June 2025. The films will be announced in the fall of 2024.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
