Continuing a long and successful partnership with Variety, the Karlovy Vary IFF will host 10 films selected by Variety critics. This year’s programme represents a diverse cross-section of new European films that have impressed Variety magazine’s international team of critics on the festival circuit over the past year.
„Ranging from veteran musicvideo maestro Julien Temple’s life-affirming documentary, The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson, to first-time French director Thomas Salvador’s unconventional spin on the superhero movie, Vincent, this year’s selection reflects both the wide-ranging tastes of my Variety colleagues (each of whom suggested recent favorites for consideration) and the equally diverse talents to be found in European cinema today,“ said Peter Debruge, Chief International Film Critic of Variety.
In the past, Variety Critics’ Choice was supported by European Film Promotion. This year, the section was designed only by Variety while EFP introduces a new programme named Future Frames: Ten New Filmmakers To Follow, in media partnership with Variety, to draw attention to talented young filmmakers around Europe with promising futures.
