The Karlovy Vary IFF organisers have been putting together the Pragueshorts Film Festival since 2005, an event focusing on films of all genres with a length of up to 30 minutes. Every year the festival presents around 120 films, both in competition sections and thematic programmes, and it gives viewers the opportunity to become acquainted with current world and domestic short-film production, and showcases the upcoming generation of filmmakers and their original and fresh interpretation of film. This year Prague hosted the 17th edition of the Pragueshorts Film Festival, and in Karlovy Vary you’ll be able to make the most of three programmes, which offer a selection of films from the competition sections and from the kids' programme as well.
The programme Pragueshorts - Czech Selection presents a mixed bag from the National Competition, including the winning film Vinland, which also garnered the Magnesia Award for Best Student Film this year, and the film Island of Freedom, which won Best Short at the Czech Film Critics’ Awards.
In the programme Pragueshorts - Awarded Films you can see movies that won awards this year in the International Competition (The Trees, Oysters, Trumpets in the Sky), and in the Labo Competition for short experimental films (Nest); here you can also see the film which took away the Audience Award (Fairplay).
The Pragueshorts for Kids programme is aimed at our youngest viewers. This year’s selection, for children from 2 to 8 years of age, presents nine films over the course of one hour, in which we will find out whether Mína will come to her friend Toy’s rescue, whether you can add mice to soup as well as carrots, how complicated things get for mother squirrel, who will help Battery Daddy to regain his energy, and whether mom is always right.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
