Synopsis
A hard-hearted, sinister woman named Lio Sha sets off with her accomplices, an evil gang known as the “Spiders”, in search of riches – a diamond in the shape of the Buddha’s head, which is to guarantee its owner world domination. Her plans are thwarted by the honourable and fearless adventurer Kay Hoog, who dares (not with impunity) to scorn her love. This fragment of silent film from 1919 presents a naivist adventure spectacle and introduces the wealth of themes which would find their way into the subsequent films of Fritz Lang, director of the celebrated Metropolis. The first public screening of a print restored by the National Film Archive (NFA) with a live musical accompaniment.
