Variety Critics’ Choice: Europe Now! 2008 / Polčas rozpadu / Slovak Republic 2007
The recently slumbering Slovak film biz registers a faint but steady pulse with contempo relationship ensembler Half-Life. A fortysomething businessman going through a halfhearted midlife crisis, Viktor (Ján Kroner) is juggling a number of women at once.
A fortysomething businessman going through a halfhearted midlife crisis, Viktor (Ján Kroner) is juggling a number of women at once. Long-suffering wife Karla (Klára Trojanová-Pollertová) yearns for his child, business partner Lucia (Slávka Halčáková) clucks over his disorganization and Armenian barmaid Madonna (Kristina Turjanová) slings his drinks. The straw that breaks this camel’s back is free-spirited co-ed Mia (Táňa Pauhofová), whom Viktor pulls out of the Danube after she fell in trying to photograph herself trussed up with duct tape. She’s also got a few strikes against her, including boorish Goth b.f. Konzi (Marek Geišberg) and a set of parents (Matej Landl, Diana Mórová) who just happen to be Viktor’s old school chums.
