Another View 2010 / Tucker & Dale vs Evil / Canada 2010
A couple of sweaty hillbillies name Tucker and Dale are bosom buddies who always feel refreshed at the mere thought of an ice cold beer. But their fixer-upper weekend at a backwoods cabin is interrupted by a group of hysterical college students. This audacious comedy tribute to the blood-drenched horror genre spoofs the stereotypes that made Friday the 13th famous.
Two hillbillies, toting a generous supply of beer and an arsenal of forbidding tools, arrive at a cabin tucked deep in the forests of West Virginia. On the same day, a group of college students comes for a weekend picnic, and their self-appointed leader puts the fear of god in them with a horror story about something that once happened in the vicinity. However predictable the plot may seem from here on in, surprises await. This audacious tribute to gory fright flicks became the audience hit of this year’s midnight screenings at the Sundance film festival, offering an entirely different kind of plot development than found in the likes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, and Fargo. In this stereotype-busting horror comedy with irresistible romantic elements, Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk, well-known to fans of genre fare, excel as the eponymous duo of kindhearted pals whose plan to spend their vacation fixing up a cabin goes somewhat awry.
