A dramatic reconstruction of the July 2001 police action aimed against protesters during the G8 summit in Genoa. Young people from all over the world on one side and a horde of brutality- obsessed police on the other. Overflowing with violence, the movie depicts the injustice of one night with maximum transparency.
The 2001 G8 summit in Genoa, Italy, has gone down in history as one of the most violent, thanks to the dramatic clash between protesters and the Italian police. Not even the death of one of the demonstrators and hundreds of wounded brought peace to the town. On the contrary. On the final day of a meeting that welcomed the world’s most powerful politicians, the police burst into Diaz Pascoli school, where the demonstrators were staying. In his reconstruction of the violent events of Genoa’s July protests (which were subsequently overshadowed by the September 11th terrorist attacks on the USA), Daniele Vicari places young, likable demonstrators, who just wanted a slightly more humane world, in opposition to a horde of brutality-obsessed policemen, who bloodily beat and remorselessly interrogated dozens of innocent people. The movie depicts the injustice of one night with maximum transparency.
