After studying to become a movie director, Sophie decides to work at an amusement park. Thinking his employee might be able to put her experience to practical use, her boss asks her to shoot a park video. Sophie never imagined she would be embarking on a journey which would ultimately allow her to come to terms with a trauma she experienced in her native Africa. This subjective movie benefits from superb acting performances reinforced by atmospheric music and captivating camerawork.
After studying to become a movie director, 25-year-old Sophie decides to take a summer job at an amusement park full of rides and booths. When her boss finds out about her chosen profession he asks Sophie to put her knowledge to good use: could she make a promotional film for the park? Sophie enthusiastically agrees and shooting gets underway. Little did she imagine how wrapped up in it she’d become, or that filming her friends would reveal their inner natures, their pasts, their secrets. But more than this, as the filmmaking process becomes her diary and confession, it helps her overcome the great pain and trauma she went through as a child in her native Africa. Fair Sex is an independent, subjective para-documentary that benefits from spontaneous acting performances (especially Marie-Evelyne Lessard), reinforced by apt music and fine camerawork.
