Documentary Films - Competition 2012 / Kichot / Poland 2011
A portrait of nonconformist Polish artist Marcin Harlender, who lives with his wife Grażyna and their four young children in a messy apartment full of creative stimuli that he uses, à la Don Quixote, to fight against the world outside.
Scruffy, eccentric, and bohemian, Marcin is the type of artist who puts his work above everything else. His family comes second. Confronted with the filth and disorder of the small flat he shares with his wife Grażyna and their four young children, one might ask whether this Polish Don Quixote, who battles against the world outside, shouldn’t rather have left his Dulcinea childless. The border here between liberal childrearing and irresponsible behavior is unclear, as is Marcin’s sense of reality and his fear that a wizard will change him into a mechanical kangaroo.
