The peace and quiet of a New Zealand suburb is disturbed by a gang of desperados on the run from the law. The infighting gang, whose seductively hard-boiled female boss Gigi has to keep her two clumsy and doltish underlings in check, decides to hide in one of the local McMansions. What they don’t know is that its owners aren’t exactly the most law-abiding citizens – the Cranes have embraced their Maori roots, which includes regularly dining on fresh human fingers, livers and ears. Filled with bizarre plot twists, this horror comedy, set in a house where every uninvited guest runs the risk of being transformed into a painstakingly de-boned delicacy, is spiced up with a hearty helping of action. The wild slaughter-fest is transformed into a fun frolic featuring carefully nibbled human limbs, lesbian love, girls wedged into damn tight short shorts, and New Zealand star Temuera Morrison (best known in our parts as Jango Fett from Star Wars) as the charismatic father of the cannibal family.

Danny Mulheron (New Zealand) graduated from the New Zealand Drama School in 1983. Since then, he has become a seasoned director, screenwriter and actor in film, television and theater. His unusually diverse body of work includes all cinematic genres and styles, ranging from children’s movies to documentaries and comedy sketches. He earned a solid fan base with his politically incorrect satirical series Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby (2005–06), as the host of a television show about automobiles, and as the traumatized hippopotamus in Peter Jackson’s bizarre puppet movie Meet the Feebles (1989). Fresh Meat is Mulheron’s feature length directorial debut.
