Set amongst the forests and fjords of Norway during the Middle Ages, Escape is an adrenaline fueled genre tale with a twist. It is that rare period action picture with a femme heroine and a femme villain. The latter, bandit leader Dagmar, is played by director Roar Uthaug’s Cold Prey star Ingrid Bolsø Berdal with a feline ferocity. This intensely smouldering thesp has already been discovered by Hollywood. Ten years after the Black Death devastated the country, a poor family sets out on a journey to search for better living conditions. In a deserted mountain pass, a gang of ruthless bandits attacks them. The only one spared is 19-year-old Signe. She is taken prisoner and transported to the thieves’ camp. Here, she learns that a fate worse than death lies in wait and her only hope is to escape. Signe finds help from another prisoner, young Frigg, but can they elude the vengeful Dagmar?
