Documentary Films - Competition 2013 / Kiran / Germany 2012
This documentary by Bettina Timm and Alexander Riedel, whose visuals were nominated for the German Camera Prize, tells us about eight-year-old Kiran, who lives with his mother in a yurt at the foot of the French Pyrenees. We discover that the boy no longer shares her alternative disposition and preference for a life without the creature comforts of civilisation.
Eight-year-old Kiran lives a lifestyle that many of his peers would find impossible to imagine. He and his alternative-minded mother inhabit a yurt at the base of the French Pyrenees. In his free time he goes fishing, and the surrounding countryside, which he knows so well, is his playground. But instead of boring hours spent at the local Catholic school he’d rather get a state education. He’d also gladly exchange his dandelion salad for a hotdog, and he wouldn’t mind watching TV in the evening. Bettina Timm and Alexander Riedel were nominated for the German Camera Prize for their film’s visuals.
