East of the West - Competition 2013 / Dvojina / Slovenia, Denmark, Croatia 2013
The paths of two girls cross one evening in Ljubljana. Tina, a Slovene, and Iben, a Danish girl of similar age, both experiencing some kind of turning point in their lives, open up to one another and soon develop a close bond.... After the international success of his debut A Trip, the Slovenian director now brings us a gentle story which absorbs the atmosphere of the summer city and examines the emotions of today’s young generation.
Tina is a young Slovenian woman with a summer job as an airport bus driver. Iben is a Dane of the same age on her way to Greece for a holiday, but due to a technical problem on her flight, she is forced to stay in Ljubljana overnight. Tina is at first hesitant when Iben asks her to show her around her hometown, but she finally decides to fulfil the tourist’s wish. Reaching a kind of turning point in their lives, the two young women briefly become close and open up to one another.... Following the international success of his debut A Trip, Slovenian director Nejc Gazvoda has come out with a tender, perceptively written story that capitalises on a summer-in-the-city atmosphere and examines the emotions of today’s young generation. The director remarked on the film: "I always wanted to make a love story that’s as pure as possible – that starts as a friendship and, influenced by the circumstances, develops into love.” The perfectly apt musical score was handled by the unique Danish female duo Monkey Cup Dress.
