East of the West - Competition 2013 / Intimnye mesta / Russia 2013
Contemporary Moscow, home to several people who apparently have everything they need to lead a totally carefree life. But they all have their own little secrets.... What do people really need to be happy? An acerbic comedy mélange by a first-time directing duo who employ hyperbole and considerable frankness to address things most of us would rather keep to ourselves.
Contemporary Moscow, home to several people who apparently lead a totally carefree life. They have all acquired status in society, and at first sight seem to have everything they desire. But each of them is lacking something, and each has their own intimate secret. Juxtaposed to them is the central character, a free-thinking photographer named Ivan who believes in absolute freedom... An acerbic comedy mélange about people confronting universal issues from a first-time directing duo who employ hyperbole and considerable frankness to address things most of us would rather keep to ourselves. As the young filmmakers themselves say, it’s not your everyday festival film: "We wanted to make an auteur film that wouldn’t bear the typical characteristics of auteur cinema. A film that doesn’t leave you bored, that has a plot, a film without long, meditative shots..."
