A father and his little boy escape across the border under difficult circumstances. For their escape to be successful so that they may remain in the foreign country, the father cannot acknowledge his son in front of the authorities. But the father’s love finds a way of making itself known, bringing at least some happiness to the boy. "My intention was to show that love is not about being together,” says the filmmaker. The movie was presented at more than 100 festivals, winning over 40 awards. It is dedicated "to all those leaving their native countries and their roots and language in search of a better life.”

Hisham Zaman (b. 1975, Iraqi Kurdistan) graduated from the Norwegian Film School at Lillehammer in 2004. He has shot the short films The Bridge (Broen, 2003), The Roof (2004), and his greatest success to date, Bawke. After the medium-length Winterland (Vinterland, 2007) he realized his feature debut Before Snowfall (Før snøen faller, 2013), which is being presented as part of our retrospective.
