2003: A Musical Odyssey 2003 / Braunserver / Germany 2001
A visual and sound composition constructed exclusively from contemporary advertising sampling.
Film-music. A twenty-five-minute film by the Berlin band Column One: A roller-coaster ride through contemporary advertising and media images. The filmmakers catalogue individual situations and, with the gradual examination of details and miniature time loops (to a merciless techno rhythm), they undertake a journey beneath the surface of communication to try to understand the goals of advertising designers. The filmmakers often dissect their material into the tiniest possible fragments of information: from the fragments then come rhythms, images, and a new message. The film could be seen as a composition from the era of club electronics and the dance scene; it also seeks to minutely examine life values, needs, desire and emotion in media images.
