A charming road-movie from Patagonia: an 80-year old man runs away from home looking for his lost dog, a 40-year-old salesman desperately seeks a birthday cake for the son of a young widow he plans to seduce, and a 25-year-old woman is on her way to take part in a television show, dreaming about winning a food mixer – even though she doesn’t have any electricity in her shabby house.
Three characters travel the lonely roads of southern Patagonia thousands of miles south of Buenos Aires. Don Justo (80), a retired former owner of a general store, escapes from the house to start looking for his missing dog which someone has seen in another town. He decides to hitchhike, hoping that he’ll get a lift from his trucker-friends from the past. Roberto (40), a travelling salesman, makes the same journey in his old car, carrying a birthday cake for the son of a young woman, a late widow he plans to seduce. The very same day and along the very same route, Maria Flores (25) travels with her baby by bus. She is on her way to a television station to record a game show for which she was selected as a candidate. Her great dream is to win a food mixer – even though she doesn’t have any electricity in her shabby house. With simplicity and humour, using mostly non-professional actors, this charming road-movie speaks about ordinary people lost in the dusty steppes of Patagonia.
