The mere thought of abandoning her father in order to get married is unimaginable to Noriko. Only her father´s persuasion convinces her. None of Ozu´s other films contain the same essence of traditional images of Japan that are here placed in harmonic juxtaposition with the new liberal conception of the family.
Synopsis
Out of love, Noriko takes care of her father, Prof. Somiya, and enjoys the company of friends. She feels no lack in her life, but her aunt and father come to the mutual conclusion that she´s reached the age of marriage. Noriko cannot bear the thought of her father staying alone, and only placating words about her father´s own impending wedding force her to agree to see her future husband. He seems likable enough but, still, Noriko can´t imagine leaving her dad; only his persuasion convinces her. After her wedding the professor returns to an empty house. None of Ozu´s other films contain the same essence of traditional images of Japan that are here placed in harmonic juxtaposition with the new liberal conception of the family.
