Four imagined landscapes, four messages from forgotten or perhaps as yet undiscovered locations. Tidings from a time when the world was reduced to solitary islands, although something mythical has remained.
Pure utopia or just vaguely transformed reality? Although to a certain extent the film copies the style and rhetoric of a geographic movie, unexpected inspiration and boundless fantasy continually filter through the work. Caught somewhere between documentary, ethnographic study, and fiction, this vivid movie investigates four specific locations, four forgotten societies which are perhaps only now awaiting discovery. Although constructed as a collage, the film creates a highly unified ambience in which the magic of recognizing the unknown is almost palpable. The movie was shot in four locations in Japan, Lanzarote, Tuvalu, and the UK.
