Tribute to Anurag Kashyap 2014 / Murabba / India 2013
This short film by Anurag Kashyap is part of the story showcase Bombay Stories created by four leading lights of Indian cinema. Their common theme is the celebration of ordinary Indians and their obsession with Bollywood royalty. The film will be screened as a part of KVIFF Talks.
Fruit Preserve is part of Bombay Talkies, an anthology film of four short movies directed by top Indian directors – Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar – that was shown at the Cannes film festival last year. It celebrates the ordinary Indian’s obsession with Bollywood stars. Smalltown Vijay (Vineet Kumar Singh) must meet Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan in Mumbai at his dying father’s (Sudhir Pandey) request, get him to eat half a homemade murabba, and bring the other half back for his father in the hope of prolonging his life. After he somehow manages to achieve this, the bottle breaks, so Vijay replaces it – but his dad can’t be fooled.
