East of the West - Competition 2004 / Dotknij mnie / Poland 2003
Lodz, a dilapidated apartment building. Two film school graduates are having a tough time finding work; nothing but trouble comes their way. Teenage Anna is having problems with her mom. Her mom’s life in turn is complicated by a young policeman who has been making advances towards her. Commercial kitsch mingles with the draining greyness of reality but still they’ve all got to get along somehow.
Lodz. Film school grads Sylwek and Piotrek live in a dilapidated apartment squat and can’t seem to scrounge up a job. They appear in a stupid commercial, and in the evening they stare through windows at others’ lives. The young men head for the unemployment office but there is nothing on offer. They go to a department store to visit their friend Wojtek, a mini-sauna salesman. In the evening the guys invade a local sex joint. Sylwek then cruelly humiliates his admirer, the teenage Karolina. Anna is in conflict with her mother Ewa and her mom’s partner. Policeman Grzegorz comes to calm the arguing family and becomes enchanted by the neurotic Ewa. He determines to arrange a meeting with her. After being chased off the nighttime streets by Grzegorz, Anna tries out her feminine wiles on the pragmatic Wojtek. Sylwek and Piotrek have nothing to do, no place to be. Grzegorz continues to seek out Ewa, Anna continues seeking a sexual experience...
