Variety Critics´ Choice 2001 / Laissons Lucie faire! / France 2000
A delightful tale of youthful manners set on the southern coast of France. This self-styled divertissement sentimental gets by almost totally on the charm of its leads (Marie Gillain, helmer-writer Emmanuel Mouret who is a talent to watch). Lucie, a young woman in her mid-20s, models and sells swimsuits on the beach. She´s lived with Lucien (Mouret) for nine years but is now plagued by strange dreams which threaten their relationship. Lucien, who´s studying to become a policeman, fails his exams but is hired by the French secret service. Lucien then meets Jenny (Dolores Chaplin), an American rich kid, who proposes an aventure sensuelle; unfortunately, Lucie learns of the tryst. To crown everything, Lucien is activated for a spy mission. . . . Derek Elley
