Variety Critics´ Choice 2001 / Detektor / Norway 2000
Cleverly scripted and directed, the entertaining „Detector" is both a drama and a comedy about a man trying to grow up and find himself. Almost 30, psychologist Daniel (Mads Ousdal) still lives with his hovering mother (Hildegun Riise) and spends his free time with friend Ronny (Harald Eia) enjoying the odd hobby of walking on beaches and through meadows using detectors to find metal objects. One day, they find a bracelet engraved with the name Janne – who turns out to be a beautiful young woman (Ingjerd Egeberg), for whom Daniel leaves his mother. Daniel and Ronny then start using their detector to find a body supposedly buried in the vicinity. After Janne suddenly disappears, Daniel’s search for her ultimately uncovers some dark secrets. . . . Gunnar Rehlin
