A black-and-white film about enthusiastic amateurs who escape their trying existence through their love of music and singing. A group of Moscow pensioners eagerty try their hand at opera at the local Cultural Hall. Later these older ladies and gentlemen go on tour around the countryside. Middle-aged villagers regularly meet to enjoy the beauty of folk songs. Young men with rather mundane jobs have taken a liking to brass band music and play at funerals. All of them devote themselves to their hobbies unselfishly. They sacrifice time and energy, receiving in return the recognition and applause of the lay village population.
