Tribute to Bigas Luna 2001 / La teta y la luna / Spain 1994
Three men are crazy about Estrellita, ‘The Queen of Stuttgart.’ Her husband Maurice who doesn’t want to lose her heart, the adolescent Miguel who feels an electric jolt every time he touches her, and Tete, a boy obsessed with her chest. . . . After his little brother was born, Tete began to feel neglected. He doesn’t know why he has to drink cow’s milk when his mother has milk of her own. Circus performers Estrellita and Maurice get an engagement at the local music hall. Tete is immediately fascinated with Estrellita, that is, with her ample breasts. But not only Tete perishes with desire for the artiste: teenage Miguel has also fallen hopelessly in love with her. The story is told from Tete’s perspective, and his humorous narration offers the viewer an immediate glimpse into the world of children. In this way Bigas Luna has created an unusual story which, combined with a magical language full of Catalonian symbols, becomes a fanciful film spectacle.
