Midnight Screenings 2017 / Baby Driver / USA 2017
His name is Baby and he’s a young and exceptionally talented getaway driver for a criminal gang. Pedal to the metal, music cranked up on his headphones, and flashing lights in the rear-view mirror. Just one last job and Baby can make a fresh start. Assuming, that is, the big boss doesn’t have any other plans for him…
His name is Baby and he’s a young and exceptionally talented driver. He knows it takes more than just putting the pedal to the metal: it’s also the beat of the music in his headphones that helps him get the job done. And while the girl of his dreams from the nearby restaurant thinks he’s just an ordinary driver, Baby cruises the city with three armed gangsters, a cargo worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, flashing lights in the rear-view mirror, and a police helicopter flying overhead. But Baby is looking to leave the game, especially when a new life away from the world of crime awaits him around the bend. Just one more job and a clean break. That is, assuming the big boss doesn’t have any other plans for him… Edgar Wright’s high-octane ride has a carload of original ideas, a fresh style, and a rocking soundtrack – and don't worry, festival projectionists have a green light to shift the volume into overdrive. Wright could hardly have created a more forceful and inventive Hollywood first feature.

Edgar Wright (b. 1974, Poole, Dorset, UK) is a film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. As a teen in the 1980s he shot several short amateur films before making his feature-length debut at age 20 in 1994 with the low-budget A Fistful of Fingers. An important milestone in his career was his work for television, in particular, as director of the cult series "Spaced" (1999-2001), on which he collaborated with Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson. He first gained wider recognition as the creator of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, in which he toyed with and exploded various genre conventions: Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World’s End (2013). Equally subversive were his short film Don’t (2007), which was included in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse, and his comic-book adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010).
