Fatih Akin’s new thriller tells the story of Katja, whose happy family life is torn apart by sudden tragedy. Desperate, in a world full of unjustified hatred, she suppresses all her inhibitions in order to achieve justice. Diane Kruger gives an outstanding performance, for which she took away the Best Actress award at the recent Cannes film festival.
When Katja (Diane Kruger) married her Kurdish husband Nuri, it was in the hope that he would never return to dealing drugs, for which he was in prison at the time. Her faith in him is rewarded: The couple successfully forget their troubled past and live a happy life with their six-year-old son Rocco in Hamburg’s Turkish neighbourhood. Then a sudden tragedy tears Katja’s life apart… Director Fatih Akin’s new thriller reflects his long-term interest in the difficult lives of immigrants, but also explores how people react to extreme situations. As the shock of the moment peels away the layers of her personality, Katja is left with nothing but a bare and desolate existence. Desperate, in a world full of unjustified hatred, she suppresses all her inhibitions in order to achieve justice. Diane Kruger gives an outstanding performance for which she took away the Best Actress Award at the recent Cannes film festival.
