An old woman named Ayshe leads a solitary life in a remote fishing village on the shores of the Black Sea. After her sister’s death she withdraws from the world and returns, in her memories, to incidents long ago of ethnic cleansing against the Greek minority. Little Elena was among those who survived.

Ethnic cleansing took place here during the winter of 1916, during which the Ottoman army killed or expelled the Greek minority that had settled the land 3,000 years prior.
