Forum of Independents - Competition 2005 / Romántico / Mexico, USA 2005
A melancholic documentary portrait of Carmelo Muñiz and his friend Arturo, two Mexican musicians who roam the bars, restaurants and streets of San Francisco, playing love songs for a few coins from people who merely show contempt for them. A film about desire, disappointment, the high cost of survival, the hardship of being an artist, and the existential quest for happiness in the face of frustrated dreams.
A melancholic documentary portrait of Carmelo Muñiz and his friend Arturo, two Mexican musicians who roam the bars, restaurants and streets of San Francisco, playing love songs for a few coins from people who merely show contempt for them. Carmelo’s stay in San Francisco ends abruptly when he learns that his ailing mother has taken a turn for the worse. Returning to Mexico, Carmelo sees his family for the first time in many years, but almost as soon as he arrives, he realizes that he won’t be able to support them. And so Carmelo picks up his guitar again in an attempt to earn enough to pay for a return trip to the States... A film about hope, disappointment, the high cost of survival, the hardship of being an artist, and the existential quest for happiness in the face of frustrated dreams.
