Reflections of Time: Baltic Poetic Documentary 2018 / Eldoraado / Estonia 1971
Different eras and geographical locations have their own dreamscapes. Here, however, the mythical El Dorado is a mining site. Tambek does not simply document miners’ lives, but creates an image of a secluded universe far away from social norms, one that engenders a unified space between reality and dream.
Different eras and geographical locations have their own dreamscapes, where opportunities and wealth await. Here, however, the mythical El Dorado is a mining site. The director presents the miners’ daily work routines and leisure-time choices, their impressions of a destined fortune and what it will bring. Tambek does not simply document their lives, but creates an image of a secluded universe far away from social reality. It’s a place filled with an array of human portraits, rich visual details, and various landscapes that form a unified space between reality and dream.
