A detective comedy based on real events. Set in the 1970s the film tells the story of an African-American police officer from Colorado who successfully infiltrates the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan and rises to lead it. As is his wont, in his latest movie Spike Lee shows absolutely no mercy at all.
“With the right white man we can do anything.” Ron Stallworth is the first black American on the Colorado Springs police force. He has always wanted to be an undercover detective, and as soon as he joins the department he begins to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan – over the phone. But when he has to meet personally with the Klansmen, he sends his Jewish fellow cop Flip, who becomes his double. Together they make the perfect inferiority complex-ridden racist, one who rises in the ranks to lead the local chapter. Director Spike Lee and producer Jordan Peele turn actual events into a stylish and provocative movie that reminds us of a simple truth: history always repeats itself.
