The more modest Ettore, in contrast, hides his failures behind a façade of self-deprecation and resignation. But then a serious medical diagnosis completely changes their lives and forces them to rethink their priorities. This bittersweet film, about matters both evanescent and deadly serious, unfolds against a backdrop of lively parties and plaintive conversations. At the same time, it unobtrusively portrays the environment of the Italian upper crust but also touches on global issues.
