Another View 2019 / Šavovi / Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2019
Ana’s son died soon after childbirth … or at least that’s what her doctors told her. Today, twenty years later, she still won’t give up hope that he’s alive somewhere. And according to certain indications, he may well be. Based on true events, the film sensitively explores the consequences of a dark chapter in modern Serbian history.
One morning Ana bakes a cake and places it on the table. Her adolescent daughter leaves without a word and all Ana gets from her husband is a silent embrace. The cake isn’t for any of them; it’s to mark twenty years since she gave birth to a son who died soon after – or at least that’s what the doctors told her. But Ana still hopes that her son is alive somewhere… Some years ago in Serbia a baby-trafficking network was uncovered involving hospital staff, doctors, and even government officials; during the war they sold children for adoption abroad. This sensitive film explores the consequences of a dark episode in history that has never been fully investigated.
