The metropolis of Brasília effectively grew up on a greenfield site and subsequently left its indelible mark on the ecosystem. Filmmaker Ana Vaz sets off into the city’s streets in the hours of darkness, into an urban wilderness, where animals move about between the constant stream of cars and within the interminable industrial zones. Vaz’s experimental cinematic form combines documentary and essayistic elements with an atmosphere of horror, intensified by an unsettling score. This atmospheric ride into the unknown possesses dream-like qualities while nevertheless maintaining a close connection with reality. Is the spectacle of a sleeping capybara disturbing or reassuring?
