Midnight Screenings 2023 / Neukdaesanyang / South Korea 2022
The action horror film Project Wolf Hunting is not another of the genre mash-ups that Korean cinema is famous for. Instead, this tale of a prisoner ship that is also carrying a far more dangerous cargo is a straight-forward genre film at its core. A guilty pleasure full of bloody special effects and brutal action sequences that evolve in the second half into a struggle against a superhumanly strong and extremely tenacious opponent. The filmmakers have nevertheless managed to tell their simple and unrelentingly hardcore tale in a meticulously crafted style that most similar B-movie projects can only dream of.
