A post-revolutionary nightmare. A study of one mental unraveling. Julio and his family return to Argentina, which in the 1980s has come alive with hopes for a functioning democracy. But even for the wealthiest, a change in regime does not automatically bring instant prosperity and security. When Julio’s brother is kidnapped by men associated with the previous regime’s security forces, he must contend with an invisible and untouchable enemy. The Rescue, which premiered in the Orizzonti Extra section at the 2023 Venice Biennale, focuses entirely on its main protagonist as an individual at the mercy of history and social expectations.
