Out of the Past 2024 / Let's Get Lost / USA 1988
“Charlie Parker heard Chet Baker playing somewhere […] and the legend was that he called Miles Davis and Dizzie Gillespie and said: “ ’Hey, there’s a little white cat out here who’s giving you a lot of trouble’.” The renowned photographer adds that everyone has a story about Chet, cramming his own into a unique documentary which earned him an Oscar nomination 35 years ago. Bruce Weber and his crew tracked the legendary jazz trumpeter and vocalist from one U.S. coast to another, and accompanied him to Europe on what would ultimately be his last tour. Here's a remarkable opportunity to view this restored copy, with its electrifying collage of studio shots, rare footage of past concerts, the young, chic Chet in Italian B movies going way back, and also authentic interviews with the ageing, fragile musician.
