We can watch a film, we can experience it, or we can devour it. But Minh Quý Truong knows that some films can be dreamed. His fog-shrouded tale of Viet and Nam, two miners who share a profession and a fleeting tenderness, follows the rhythms of delicate, spiritual storytelling. The damp mine shafts hide danger, but their darkness can also be a refuge. At the same time, the two young men dream of a future elsewhere. One imagines a life overseas, while the other must first plumb the depths of his family history. Shot on 16mm film, Viet and Nam meanders slowly through the hardships of contemporary life in Vietnam without forgetting that beneath the surface lies hidden a troubled past.
