An American, a Frenchman, and an Italian meet. A joke, or a serious political meeting? Here it is the latter. Several G7 leaders have come together to deal with an unspecified crisis. But the Frenchman always wants to be right, the Canadian seems to be suffering from existential gloom, and the American president, overwhelmed by age and dinner, is constantly asleep. Not to mention the reanimated archeological finds, the giant brain hidden in the woods, and the annoying fog that keeps the politicians from their work and limits their perspective. This dark comedy, co-directed by legendary Canadian oddball Guy Maddin, had audiences laughing out loud at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
