Sophie Schoukens was born in Belgium, but started her career as an actress in New York. After her return to Europe she became a film producer and was involved in several award-winning international coproductions. She worked for the MEDIA programme for six years. In 2005 she decided to leave her job in order to fulfil her dream of becoming a film director. Alice or Life in Black and White (2005) is her first film.
