The American film The Parting Glass is set against the backdrop of a tragedy that has brought together the members of a large family: the suicide of the youngest sister. The film, which follows the dynamics of an Irish-American clan, is based on the personal experience of actor and screenwriter Denis O'Hare. “90% of the story is what actually happened; the rest is made up. Of course I was afraid the people around me wouldn’t necessary approve of the film, but my family was supportive. My father decided not to see it, however – a decision I completely respect,” said the actor and screenwriter.
Coming to Karlovy Vary to present the film was not only O’Hare, but also the director, Stephen Moyer, better known as an actor, and his wife Anna Paquin, whom he met when filming the series True Blood, in which O’Hare also made an appearance as a 3000-year-old Vampire. Paquin appears in the film only in a few scenes, for a few fleeting moments and often from indirect angles. “As I am a bit shy, I liked the fact that I would be in a film I would not be seen in,” said the actress with a smile. She, however, already became famous as a child for her role in the Oscar-winning drama The Piano. Moyer began his career as an actor, which, in his own words, he likes especially for its creative energy. He would like to go back to directing, however, especially if he can put his wife in front of the camera again.
