The Monday Proxima Section brings a typical variety of topics. At 4:00 p.m. starts the world premiere of Another Spring, a Serbian-Quatar documentary, aptly described as a medical thriller, at the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre. The detailed reconstruction by documentarist Mladen Kovačević narrates about Europe’s last ever smallpox pandemics, which broke out in 1972 in Yugoslavia and whose early months are strikingly reminiscent of the events of the past two years.
The world premiere of Fools will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre. After the triumph of his previous film United States of Love, awarded at the Berlinale, Tomasz Wasilewski continues to develop his original directorial craft in his unsettling family drama. The story of a couple whose cosy existence is turned upside down by a decision to bring home the sick son cuts deep into the souls of the main characters thanks to perfect photography and grips with its carefully composed images.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
